This post is part of my ongoing celebration of maternity photography and all the meaningful ways we can capture this beautiful season. Today I’m so delighted to share the magic from Alexandrea’s Minneapolis maternity photoshoot, captured in a light‑filled Twin Cities studio — a session that perfectly reflects the romantic, feminine, ethereal, and dreamy imagery I love to create.
For Alexandrea’s maternity photo session, we had prepared three stunning, ethereal outfits ahead of time — each one part of my curated client wardrobe — so she could simply arrive and feel confident and beautiful without the stress of outfit decisions. A fresh bouquet of soft light pink roses added a romantic, timeless touch to her images and complemented the airy studio light that makes maternity photos feel truly elegant.
A studio maternity session offers something wonderfully classic and graceful — especially when you’re drawn to soft light, feminine styling, and elegant portraiture. The controlled environment of the studio means we’re never at the mercy of weather or seasons (and let’s be honest, MN weather is unpredictable!). Instead, we get consistent, beautiful natural light all year long, which enhances that luminous, dreamy atmosphere so many of my clients adore.
With a studio session, the focus stays on you: your connection to your baby, your glow, your emotion in this fleeting chapter of life. That’s what makes these images feel so precious and timeless.
What makes sessions truly special is not just the final images — it’s the experience itself. Alexandrea’s session was effortless and fun. All she did to prepare was a bit of extra makeup, added fake lashes, and painted her finger and toe nails. I handled everything else — from styling the outfits to guiding posing and capturing moments she’ll cherish forever.
I custom-design every session so that it feels easy and relaxed — no stress, no complicated prep, just enjoyment and anticipation for the memories we’re capturing. Many of my clients tell me this part of the journey ends up being as meaningful as the photos themselves.

One of the most common questions I hear when clients book their Minneapolis maternity photoshoot is what they should wear. The good news is that I make this part very simple. Many of the flowing, ethereal gowns you see in this session are part of my client wardrobe, available to every maternity client. These pieces were carefully selected because they photograph beautifully—soft fabrics, flattering silhouettes, and light, romantic tones that perfectly complement the airy light of the studio and highlight your baby bump.
Before Alexandrea’s session, we chose three gowns from the wardrobe that fit the elegant, feminine look we wanted to create. Planning outfits ahead of time allows everything to feel relaxed and effortless on session day. In general, I recommend soft neutrals, pastels, and flowing fabrics that create movement and softness in photos. For more detailed tips and inspiration, you can read my full guide on what to wear for maternity photos.
This session was exactly the type of imagery I live for: elegant, soft, and romantic. The studio’s natural light wrapped around Alexandrea in the most beautiful way, while the gentle hues of her wardrobe and the delicate roses added a feminine and ethereal feel to her gallery. It’s the kind of visual storytelling that truly honors this remarkable stage of motherhood.
If you’re dreaming of maternity portraits that feel light, elegant, timeless, and beautifully feminine, a Minneapolis studio session might be the perfect choice for you.

I’m proud to offer a Motherhood Collection, which includes both maternity and newborn photography so your story feels complete — from the anticipation before baby arrives to those first tender moments afterward. When you book maternity and newborn photos together, you get the benefit of a cohesive look throughout your whole story (beautiful for an album!), you have ease of mind that your newborn photos are on the books, and you get a savings for booking together. Read the post: “Why you should book maternity and newborn photos together.“
Whether you’re planning maternity photos in the studio, outdoors, or combining sessions into a full motherhood experience, I’ll help you plan every detail with care and intentional style. If this look resonates with the way you want to remember this season — soft, romantic, and truly you — I would be honored to be the one to document it.

Maternity photos are best taken between 28 and 32 weeks, when your belly is looking cute and you’re still feeling comfortable. If you’re planning your own Minneapolis maternity photoshoot, you can learn more about my maternity sessions and the Motherhood Collection that includes both maternity and newborn photography.
