Your senior year is a milestone worth celebrating, and your senior pictures should feel just as special. If you’re booking senior photos and feeling a little unsure about what the process looks like, you’re in the right place. This guide on what to expect during Minneapolis senior photos will walk you through the whole experience so you feel totally comfortable and excited going into your session.
I know stepping in front of the camera can feel a little intimidating at first — the outfits, locations, poses, and timing can feel overwhelming. But don’t worry: I’m with you every step of the way, guiding, encouraging, and helping you feel confident and comfortable so your session is fun, relaxed, and completely about you. As a Minneapolis senior photographer, I’ve photographed seniors of all personalities and so far everyone has walked away feeling energized, confident and excited to see their pictures!
Once you’re booked, the adventure begins! You’ll immediately receive a comprehensive online Welcome Guide upon booking, which includes a full list of locations, as well as location “vibes.” I like to give you some time to look this over, think about the vision for your session, perhaps create a Pinterest board if this is something you’re into.
Next step is to complete a questionnaire so I can get to know your personality, hobbies, and vision or vibe. This is your chance to tell me about yourself — your style, your favorite spots, and what makes you, well… you!
This is where we start creating a personalized session to match your personality. We’ll talk about locations — Minneapolis, Edina, Wayzata and surrounding areas is full of beautiful options! Whether you love urban streets downtown, flower-filled parks, golden fields, or lakeside views, we’ll discuss locations that match your style.

Outfits are an essential part of your session because they set the tone and style of your images. I’ll guide you through how many outfits to bring, which colors work best, and how to mix casual and dressy looks. We typically select outfits AFTER your locations are selected – we’ll pair them up so your outfits vibe perfectly with your surroundings. I suggest sending me photos ahead of time and we’ll finalize together. Even if you send me outfit photos ahead of time, we’ll review them on the day of your session to make adjustments and make sure everything looks cohesive and amazing.
On the day of your senior photoshoot, all the planning is complete and now it’s time for you to relax, and shine! When you arrive, we’ll start with a quick outfit review to make sure everything is ready for your first look. For outfit changes onsite, I bring a portable changing room, so you can switch comfortably and privately even in the middle of a park. No stress, no awkward moments, (and no porta-pottys or changing in your car!)
From there, we’ll begin the photos. My approach is very relaxed and natural with tons of fun and laughs! I’ll guide every pose so you feel confident and at ease. We’ll mix candid, playful moments with more posed portraits that highlight your personality and style. You’ll laugh, move, and interact with the camera — the goal is to capture real, authentic moments, not stiff, awkward poses. All of my photographs use natural light only – I feel like it looks so much more natural, soft and elegant.
As we move between locations, I’ll make the most of the light and scenery. I will time your session perfectly to make sure we end your session in your best outfit and with the best, golden light! Whether we’re walking through flower gardens, walking through the streets of Excelsior, running barefoot in the sand, I’ll make sure the transitions are smooth and fun.

One of my favorite things about Minneapolis senior photos is personalization!! Props, hobbies, pets, bouquets or meaningful items can make your images feel like you. A soccer ball, guitar, favorite jacket, or even your furry friend can be incorporated naturally to tell your story. These little touches help your photos feel authentic and joyful.
Beyond props, the small, in-between moments often make the best photos — a real, candid laugh, a twirl, or a look over your shoulder, maybe eating ice cream from a truck even?! These spontaneous expressions capture your personality in its most natural form, and I make it a priority to notice and freeze these moments for you. These are actually the photos that you’ll look back on with a big smile years to come!

Once your senior photos session wraps, I hand edit every image to bring out your best self. Soft, natural tones, glowing skin, and vibrant colors are all part of my signature style. Within 2-3 weeks, you’ll receive a private online gallery with all of your images, ready for sharing, printing, or creating beautiful albums and wall art. If an album is something that interests you, I will custom design that for you. They are absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend them.
From start to finish, my goal is to make this experience stress-free and enjoyable, so you can look back on these photos and remember the fun, excitement, and confidence you felt on your special day!

Minneapolis senior photos are more than portraits — they’re memories that capture a pivotal moment in your life. My approach ensures that your session is fun, relaxed, and completely tailored to you. I’m with you every step of the way, helping plan outfits, select locations, and guide poses so that every image reflects who you are.
From planning to execution to your final gallery and even prints, the entire experience is designed to highlight your personality, style, and unique story. This is your time to shine, and I’m here to make it effortless, joyful, and memorable.
Hope to see you (or your senior) soon!
